As of right now, the WWE Championship Money in the Bank match doesn't look right.
No high-flyers. No up-and-comers. No future stars.
Zero potential.
Jericho. Big Show. Kane. Cena. Did I miss something?
A quartet of star power will take the stage to battle for the right to earn what has become one the most valuable title in pro wrestling. Nobody has ever failed to win a major championship after cashing in a Money in the Bank briefcase, which is what makes it so important to the progression of budding superstars.
So, when a match that is intoxicated with hope showcases top stars and main event mainstays, all while being exclusive to former WWE champions this time around, where's the intrigue?
Surely, this won't be the last time we see any of these fab four contenders in the WWE title picture, so where's the sense of urgency necessary to make this ladder match pop?
With John Cena once again declaring his candidacy to be the next WWE champion, he has to be considered the odds-on favorite to win the Money in the Bank match, thus awkwardly carrying around an opportunistic briefcase as a top star masquerading in a suspicious stench of fortune.
It certainly wouldn't be very becoming of a star of Cena's stature to score a cheap victory over a WWE champion the way we've been accustomed to seeing the MITB briefcase used. If and when that time comes, expect Cena to do so honorably, announcing beforehand his intention to enter a fair fight for the WWE's richest prize.
Or maybe, just maybe, this is the vehicle to see Cena do something dastardly. You know the rest.
Time will only tell why the WWE is so intent on loading the WWE Championship MITB match for bear. But as usual, they seem to know something that we don't.
